Tips & tricks: applying for your dream job

Do you know how to sell yourself during a job interview? Or does the thought of having three people sitting opposite you to see if you fit into the team already make you break out in a sweat? Here you will find practical information and interview tips to prepare for your application.

The application letter

In an application letter or e-e-mail, you show who you are. Here, you describe your qualities and why you are suitable for the role. Often, the decision on whether you will be invited for an interview is based on the letter!

Content

In your motivation letter, indicate what appeals to you about the vacancy and why you are applying for the position. Mention what you think of the company and why you are suitable for this job. Refer to your education, any previous work experience, personal characteristics, or hobbies. Explain this with a short example. Be creative! E-e-mail

If you are applying by e-e-mail, attach your application letter and CV as separate documents (as PDF files), so that a printed version still looks neat. In the e-e-mail itself, write a short concise text referring to the attached documents.

Curriculum Vitae

Curriculum Vitae is also abbreviated as CV. Pay attention to the form, content, layout, and especially the font. It should be clear at a glance and arouse curiosity. You can include a photo. This is sometimes requested. Send a photo that reflects your personality. Not all photos are suitable!

Content of CV

Your curriculum vitae (CV) describes who you are and what you can do. Check out our checklist for your CV to ensure all important components are included. If you want us to check your CV, that's possible too! Contact us, send us your CV, and we'll do a check.

The job interview

It's important to be well-prepared for a job interview. Make sure you have gathered information about the company. What do they do? How many people work there approximately? What type of guests do they receive? Read the job description carefully again. Think carefully about why you want to work for this company and why you are suitable for this role. List your strengths and weaknesses. And make sure you can provide concrete examples. And importantly: be on time!

How do you search for a job?

Make use of your network. Tell as many people as possible that you are looking for a job. Often, it is easier to find the right job through your network. If you are in a restaurant, café, hotel or other hospitality business, ask if they are looking for staff. Regularly check the internet and social media. Also keep an eye on (local) newspapers. Walk into the company where you want to apply. Get a feel for the atmosphere, look at the employees who are already working there. Does this company appeal to you?
