In the hospitality industry, you often work at the weekend. It’s part of the job and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it! Sometimes it can even be pleasant, as you’re not always keen on dull (family) obligations. Sorry, I have to work is always a good excuse in such cases. But what if you want a weekend off because a big family celebration is organised? Or because you might want a nice weekend away?
If you have a good employer, you can always ask and be scheduled on other days. But what if your boss doesn’t want to hear about it? You now have the right to 13 free Sundays a year if you request them. However, your boss doesn’t have to give you the Saturday before or the Monday after off. We want to change that!
A lot of flexibility is expected from you: breakfast shifts, closing shifts, working weekends, public holidays. Isn’t it reasonable for your boss to be flexible too?
Our proposal:
As an employee, you have the right to a free weekend. It should be easier for employees to get a weekend off. A weekend can be:
- Saturday and Sunday
- Sunday and Monday

Sorry, I can't. I have to work...
