Union leave in hospitality: a milestone!

17-02-2025

In the CLA hospitality 2025/2026, alongside the loyalty leave, a second new leave has been introduced: union leave. An important step forward for everyone who wants to actively contribute to better working conditions in hospitality!

What is union leave?

Union leave is specifically intended for active members of De Horecabond. It allows you to participate in meetings, gatherings, and training and education days of the union without losing pay or annual leave. This leave is essential to stand stronger together and to influence the future of the sector!

We believe it is important that union leave is included in every CLA we negotiate. Only with active members can we do our work effectively and strengthen our position in the sector. In hospitality, it took years before this leave was included in the CLA. It was on the agenda at every negotiation, but often came at the expense of other important issues such as salary increases. That it has now been achieved is a milestone - and it is thanks to you!

How does it work?

Are you a member of De Horecabond and active in, for example, our CLA committee or attending a training day? Then you make arrangements with your employer about this. This can be done in various ways:

  • You are scheduled off that day, so it costs you nothing.
  • Your employer asks you to take unpaid leave, use time-for-time hours, or take leave hours.

In the latter case, you can apply for a compensation for lost wages with us. This compensates for the salary you miss out on or the leave hours you need to use to attend a union activity. De Horecabond then gets these costs reimbursed from the hospitality Your career Platform. The social fund in the hospitality sector that we established in 2024 based on CLA agreements.

Now that union leave is arranged in the CLA, it becomes even easier to actively engage with the union. We are always looking for new members who want to help build a strong union. Are you joining us? I would love to have a conversation with you!
