A better CLA for all zoo professionals

Posted:

My name is Carlo Snoek, union representative at De Horecabond. Soon I will be at the negotiation table for the new Zoo CLA and we will start negotiations shortly. But before we sit down with employers, I especially want to hear from you about what you find important. That’s why in August we will visit all zoos in the Netherlands and you can fill in our short questionnaire.

A good CLA does not originate at the negotiation table. It begins on the work floor, with the people who dedicate themselves every day to the animals, visitors, and colleagues.

More than just salary

In recent years, the focus during negotiations has mainly been on salary. That remains important, but we increasingly hear that employees also find other topics important.

For example, employment conditions can vary significantly between zoos. Consider travel allowances, vitality schemes, and other secondary employment conditions. Many employees indicate that they would like to see more equal employment conditions, regardless of which zoo they work at.

Make your voice heard

With our short questionnaire, we are mapping out what you find important. Which agreements should be maintained? What can be improved? And which topics do you think deserve priority during the upcoming negotiations?

Anyone who works in a zoo can fill in the questionnaire, even if you are not a member of De Horecabond. The more colleagues participate, the better we understand what is happening on the work floor and the stronger we are at the negotiation table.

Do you work in a zoo? Then fill in the questionnaire and make your voice heard!

Together we are working on a CLA that not only includes good salary agreements but also ensures better working conditions for all staff in the zoo sector.

Do you want to have real influence? Join the CLA committee!

The CLA committee consists of staff who work in a zoo themselves. They know the practice, gather signals from colleagues, and together decide which topics should be prioritised. Based on this, they instruct us as union representatives to negotiate with employers on behalf of all staff.

Are you interested in contributing ideas about the future of the Zoo CLA? There is still room in the CLA committee. You don't need to have experience with CLAs; your experience on the work floor is of great value. Interested? Feel free to send me an e-e-mail at c.snoek@dehorecabond.nl.
