As an employee, you determine the start and end times of your holiday (days) in consultation with your employer. It is important to request your holiday in good time from your employer. Timely requests are especially important during the summer period or peak season. During this time, often several colleagues want to go on holiday at the same time. In most cases, this is not possible.
In the recreation sector, you are entitled to three consecutive weeks of holiday. This can be limited to two weeks if the work makes this necessary. In that case, you are entitled to another week of consecutive holiday.
In some cases, the employer may indicate that you cannot request holiday during certain months or the peak season. The employer cannot determine this in advance without agreement. This is only allowed if it has been agreed in your contract. A busy period or structural understaffing alone is not a sufficient reason to reject a holiday request. The circumstances of the case must always be considered, and a balance of interests must always be made. It is best to submit your holiday request in writing (for example, via e-e-mail or WhatsApp). If the employer rejects your holiday, you can have the rejection reviewed by a legal expert.
