Read more about Edwin Vlek, chairman of De Horecabond.
During the Members’ Meeting of FNV Horecabond at Amersfoort Zoo, the members elected Edwin Vlek as chairman. Edwin Vlek will immediately take over the chairmanship from Dick Koerselman, who is leaving FNV Horecabond.
Edwin Vlek on his role as chairman: “A chairman is just one important part of the association. Ultimately, an association can only exist with enough members. My highest priority is therefore to work together on a movement you want to be part of. So that together we can ensure that working in the hospitality industry continues to be rewarding.” He wants to be a chairman who is visible when necessary, invisible when possible, but always approachable, close to and among the members.

Challenges and responding to Updates developments
The new chairman does not have to look far for challenges. In the coming years, themes such as industry blurring and the employment-related consequences thereof will be central to the policy of FNV Horecabond. Additionally, it remains important to work on a better image for the hospitality industry, to encourage the influx of new staff, and to make good agreements so that staff in the sectors remain.
Background
Edwin Vlek started in hospitality at the age of sixteen, from kitchen assistant to eventually F&B Manager. He has been known to FNV Horecabond for several years. In 2009, he became a member of the union, after which he followed the Young Academy in 2015 and then became active as a union representative in 2016. In December 2017, he started working as a union representative hospitality.
Bert Veldman, chairman of the selection committee: “Edwin Vlek is an excellent candidate, with the added advantage that he comes from the field and has proven himself, among other things, as a union representative hospitality.”
FNV Horecabond looks forward with confidence to the future under the new chairmanship of Edwin Vlek, who with his experience and vision will make a valuable contribution to our association.
