The negotiation result that unions previously reached with employers regarding a new CLA hospitality 2024 has been accepted by an overwhelming majority (81%) of members and non-members. The agreements, reached after intensive but constructive negotiations, concern salary, work-life balance, and also include an internship allowance. The constituency of Koninklijke hospitality Nederland has also agreed, and thus the new CLA hospitality comes into effect on 1 January 2024.
Edwin Vlek, union representative FNV hospitality: “With the CLA agreement and the arrangements within it, we are taking an important step forward in terms of employment conditions. It is important that we continue to work together as social partners towards a future-proof sector. Despite the many positive signals we have received about this agreement, there was also criticism. We are not deaf to the criticism regarding the reduction of the youth scale and the limitation on increasing the salaries of those above the scale. We will take this criticism to heart in the next negotiations. The Updates result is the best achievable at this moment.”
Focus on hospitality worker
FNV hospitality has given hospitality workers an important voice in the CLA campaign since the summer. This started with gathering input for the new CLA, which was completed by thousands of hospitality pros. In recent weeks, FNV hospitality has informed hospitality staff about the achieved negotiation result and gathered their opinions through fairs, company visits, and online communication. Edwin Vlek: “In addition to the opinion of our members, we always want to know how non-members view the result. It is important to have as broad a support base as possible among all hospitality workers for such an important decision.”
Frank van den Berk, head chef, member of the CLA committee and negotiation delegation FNV hospitality: “This new CLA improves the employment conditions in hospitality once again. I am proud to have been part of this.”
The main achieved results are:
- From 1 January 2024, the salary structure will be adjusted, resulting in increased salaries. The extent of the salary increase varies per job grade. The amounts in the salary structure will be increased by 8 to 12%.
- Additional salary increases that you have received from your employer between 1 July 2022 and 31 December 2023 – outside the CLA – can be offset.
- There will be a minimum internship allowance of 350 euros per month for BOL and HBO interns.
- In 2024, we will continue to work together on the Your career of a new salary and job structure and the establishment of a Your career platform for the hospitality sector.
- To protect employees' work-life balance, the CLA sets a limit on the number of overtime hours you can be required to work. If you are required to work more than 2,173 hours (10% above the full-time annual hours norm of 1,976 hours), you may refuse. You are not obliged to work, but you may choose to do so.
