SVH announces the top 10 best training companies in the Netherlands

09-11-2023

On Thursday, 9 November 2023, the Stichting Vakbekwaamheid hospitality (SVH) announced the Top 10 of the Best Hospitality Training Company 2023/2024 competition. Over 100 training companies were nominated this year. With the announcement of the Top 10, the first phase of the competition has concluded. In December, it will be revealed which of these training companies have made it to the Top 3.

The competition, organised by SVH on behalf of the hospitality sector, began in early September with the nomination round. Students, apprentices, mentors, teachers, and staff from the hospitality industry could nominate their favourite training companies during this round. Nominated training companies then completed assignments to demonstrate why they deserve the title.

In the first round, companies are assessed on their training vision, training plan, a testimonial from a student, and a video pitch. With this video pitch, the company creatively showcases why they are the best training company. Additional points could be earned by getting as many people as possible to vote for the video.

Ricardo Eshuis, director of SVH and chairman of the competition committee, said: “On behalf of the competition committee, I would like to warmly congratulate all the nominated training companies. Being nominated as a training company is a wonderful recognition for the company. Good mentors and training companies are indispensable for educating a new generation. They set an example and significantly influence the skills and attitude of the student towards the hospitality profession.”

This is the Top 10 of the Best Hospitality Training Company edition 2023/2024 in alphabetical order:

"This year, many new names are participating. It’s great that the competition is alive in the sector. We also saw this reflected on social media. Training companies proudly announce their nomination, and students, staff, and guests respond positively. This is, of course, excellent exposure for the company and also good for the sector's image. The training companies in the Top 10 submitted a solid training plan and excelled in creativity, content, and originality in other assignments such as video pitches and student testimonials. Fantastic teamwork!” said Eshuis.

Competition Progress

This month, the training companies from the Top 10 will be visited by a committee member of the competition. The aim is to assess whether the training plan is effectively implemented in practice and to determine if there is a good and safe working and learning environment. During the visit, the committee member will discuss this with students and mentors.

Reports from the visits will be made and discussed by the entire competition committee. The committee includes representatives from SVH, SBB, KHN, FNV hospitality, the MBO Council, and previous competition winners ’t Havenmantsje and De Werf. The competition committee will decide which three training companies will reach the final.

Best Mentor

The role of the mentor is also being highlighted again this year: they have a chance to win the title of Best Hospitality Mentor 2023/2024. The best mentor will be chosen from the Top 10 best training companies. The competition committee will determine a Top 3 of best mentors based on the company visits. The Top 3 will be visited by a committee member to decide the winner.
