On the FNV website, you can find more information about early retirement for heavy work.
After months of actions and strikes, there is certainty for people with demanding jobs. The FNV, together with other unions, has negotiated an arrangement with Minister Van Hijum, allowing them to stop up to 3 years earlier. Piet Rietman, chief negotiator, emphasises: “This arrangement provides certainty for everyone with demanding jobs, even for those with small savings. This result is thanks to our FNV members.
What has been agreed?
Our aim was always a permanent and improved arrangement for people with demanding jobs. We also wanted the sectors to determine who qualifies. Thanks to the actions in public transport, construction, metal sector, industry, cleaning, healthcare, and the police, we have achieved all of that!
- A structural arrangement: Whether you are in your sixties or just starting work, you can count on the possibility to stop on time.
- Sectors determine what demanding work is: At the CLA tables, it is determined what demanding work is. So there is an arrangement that only applies to people with demanding jobs.
- Higher amount: The annual amount increases by €3,600 to approximately €30,000. This allows people with lower incomes to use the arrangement, and it helps those with middle incomes.
- No maximum number of people: So no one is left out because the maximum has been reached.
- No income limit: Whether you have demanding work determines if you qualify for the arrangement, not the level of your income.

What next?
After the new arrangement is approved by the FNV members' parliament and by politics, we need to secure it at the CLA tables. From now on, we can make better agreements for people with demanding jobs. At the CLA table, we agree on who can use the arrangement and the exact amount. We need a strong union for that. Piet Rietman: “We have seen that we can achieve a lot if we take to the streets together and take action. If things stall in The Hague or at the CLA tables, we will be there again, but with more people. Now is the time to join the largest union and ask your colleagues to do the same.
De Horecabond is pleased with the space that will now be legally provided, and we will investigate whether an RVU in our sectors is financially feasible and possible with these principles. In the contract catering sector, an RVU arrangement is currently applicable.
