I rarely receive complaints from hospitality staff about the irregularity of the work. If you work in hospitality, you naturally know that you must be flexible; breakfast shifts, night shifts, weekends, and public holidays. It comes with the territory!
What I do receive many complaints about is the lack of any form of allowance for this flexibility. You do not receive Sunday, night, or public holiday allowances. Hospitality is the only Dutch sector where employees are not compensated in salary for working irregular hours. It is not good publicity for the sector, and with this, you will not be able to retain and engage employees for long. I believe that flexibility should be rewarded extra!
Year-end bonus as compensation
If you have been employed by your employer for a calendar year, you are entitled to a year-end bonus of 1.25%. This must be paid out by 31 December 2011 at the latest.
The year-end bonus is currently very low, and the CLA hospitality does not compensate for irregular hours in any other way, which is why we believe the year-end bonus should be increased to 2%. A small extra to compensate for your enormous flexibility.
Your company:
Make sure again this year that you receive your year-end bonus. Have you been employed by your employer for a calendar year? Then you are entitled to it!
