Aggression in hospitality?

Aggression and violence unfortunately also occur in the hospitality industry. A study commissioned by FNV hospitality in 2009 already revealed that aggression and robberies are often mentioned by employees when it comes to their safety. This can include impatient, dissatisfied and/or drunk guests, which can lead to violent behaviour.

The Labour Inspectorate and the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority will now check whether hospitality entrepreneurs are doing enough to prevent violence and aggression. The focus is primarily on a safe working environment for the staff. Employers are required to conduct a risk assessment of all potential hazards within the company, including aggression and violence. One measure employers can implement is anti-aggression training. However, if you do encounter aggression, it is also the employer's responsibility to provide support and aftercare.
