Am I entitled to a periodic increase?

01-07-2024

From 1 January 2023, as a hospitality skilled worker aged 21 or older with an actual salary between the basic and final salary on 31 December of the previous year, you are entitled to an annual periodic increase of 2%. The periodic increments, also known as steps, can be found in the salary scale of the CLA hospitality in which you are classified.

To qualify for a periodic increment, you must have been employed as a skilled worker in the same role and with the same employer for at least a full calendar year by 1 January. To apply this system of periodic increments from 1 January 2023, your employer was required to place you in the periodic system before this date.

Note:

  • No periodic increase is due when an employee performs moderately or insufficiently for two consecutive years based on the assessment of article 4.5 of the CLA hospitality.
  • The employer may, under certain conditions, implement their own periodic increase instead of the fixed increase (see article 4.11 paragraph 5 of the CLA hospitality for this). The employer's periodic increase must not be lower than 2% per year, unless their own arrangement allows this in agreement with the works council.

Unfortunately, we have observed in practice that not all employees were classified in a periodic increment by 1 January 2023. The importance of being classified in a periodic increment is evident from the CLA agreements we have made for 2024. The salary increase you receive depends not only on the job grade you are in but also on whether and in which periodic increment you are classified. After applying the salary increase on 1 January 2024, everyone not on the basic or final salary should be in a periodic increment.

In the new CLA, we have included an agreement stating that your employer is obliged to inform you in writing about the job grade and periodic increment you are classified in. This prevents discussions, clarifies your entitlements, and ensures better compliance with the CLA. If you don't know which job grade and periodic increment you are classified in, ask your employer and refer them to the agreements in the CLA hospitality.
