‘Slaves wanted' would be a more fitting title for the job vacancy we clipped from the newspaper today. Because yes, we all understand that an employee in hospitality must be flexible. But to explicitly state in your description that you want to work 'well and willingly' and are not allowed to have a social life, goes a bit too far. Unfortunately, this is the reality with some employers; long days, days off retracted during busy periods, not accounting for overtime, and all that for a poor salary! Because let's be honest, this vacancy doesn't pay much more than the minimum salary.
What possesses an employer to place such job advertisements in this labour market, where there is a significant shortage of good serving staff? This is a case of uninspiring leadership! I wonder if this company receives many applications...
