Exploratory discussions reveal that employers are unwilling to guarantee the retention of Part A of the CLA for now and in the near future. FNV Catering does not understand this rigid stance. This blocks any further negotiation and time is running out. After all, all employees in the catering sector are eager for some purchasing power retention and improvement.
In Part A, employees who have worked hard for many years, despite all setbacks, are employed. Employers, through their attitude, dismiss these employees as a burden and want to continually question the employment conditions of this group. FNV Catering finds this disrespectful to all hardworking catering staff. Employees now have the choice to switch to Part B of the CLA or not, and that should remain the case.
FNV Catering is open to further discussions about the rest of the CLA, as improvements can also be made in Part B, but finds the employers' attitude towards Part A disrespectful and counterproductive. This attitude currently holds hostage the possibility of reaching a new CLA.
Tuesday, 19 March, another negotiation is scheduled. FNV Catering hopes for a constructive attitude from the employers where appreciation for all employees will prevail in the agreements for Part A and Part B.
Update Inflight
During the last negotiation meeting, it was agreed to conduct a joint exploration of ways to increase staff intake and retention.
On Thursday, 7 March, the results of this study were discussed, looking at the inflow, progression, and outflow of staff and the bottlenecks involved. A comparison was made between the employment conditions of inflight roles and comparable roles in the baggage handling and transport sector. It appears that the salary difference at the lower end of the salary scale is greater than in higher roles, especially compared to KLM. After this discussion, employers made a salary proposal with two options.
Option 1
The first option was a salary increase with different percentages per scale. Scales 1 to 4 have been supplemented compared to the CLA hospitality agreements as of 1-1-2024. This is to promote intake in these groups and counteract the outflow of experienced staff.
| Scale 1: | Start + 15% and end + 15% |
| Scale 2: | Start + 13% and end + 13% |
| Scale 3: | Start + 12% and end + 12% |
| Scale 4: | Start + 9% and end + 11.2% |
| Scale 5: | Start + 8% and end + 8% |
| Scale 6: | Start + 8% and end + 8% |
| Scale 7: | Start + 8% and end + 8% |
| Scale 8: | Start + 8% and end + 8% |
Option 2
The unions had also asked for a proposal to choose a combination of cents and percentages. Everyone receives a fixed amount with the salary and a percentage salary increase. Employers proposed a fixed amount of 150 euros and 4% for everyone, with additional measures for groups 1 to 4. Thus, the employers' salary offer is as follows:
| Scale 1: | Start + 14.5% and end + 13.9% |
| Scale 2: | Start + 13.2% and end + 12.5% |
| Scale 3: | Start + 12.9% and end + 12.2% |
| Scale 4: | Start + 10.2% and end + 11.7% |
| Scale 5: | Start + 9.6% and end + 9.0% |
| Scale 6: | Start + 9.1% and end + 8.4% |
| Scale 7: | Start + 8.6% and end + 8.0% |
| Scale 8: | Start + 8.2% and end + 7.6% |
FNV Catering is pleased to receive a concrete salary proposal so that we can discuss it with the CLA committee. We have promised to provide a substantive response next time and make a counteroffer to the employers' proposal.
Response CLA committee salary proposal
The CLA committee Inflight has surveyed various colleagues on how they view the salary proposals. The disappointment is great. It is good that there is attention to improvement in the lower scales, but purchasing power improvement is needed for all scales. Moreover, the position of Inflight at Schiphol in terms of employment conditions has significantly deteriorated in recent years. The CLA committee has proposed a counteroffer of a fixed amount of 300 euros and an increase of 7% on all salary scales:
| Scale 1: | Start + 21.9% and end + 20.8% |
| Scale 2: | Start + 21.5% and end + 20% |
| Scale 3: | Start + 21% and end + 19.7% |
| Scale 4: | Start + 19.8% and end + 18.6% |
| Scale 5: | Start + 18.5% and end + 17.2% |
| Scale 6: | Start + 17.4% and end + 16% |
| Scale 7: | Start + 16.5% and end + 15.3% |
| Scale 8: | Start + 15.2% and end + 14.4% |
Thursday, 21 March 2024, the next negotiation for inflight is scheduled. Hopefully, spring will break through.
